For today’s edition of Custom Characters, the regular feature where I’ve been rolling out all of my vinyl figure creations, I’d like to present to you Pen Griffey Jr.
Since the weather has been warming up as of late, I figured I had to parade him out here before it got too warm and he flew(?) the coop. Pen Griffey Jr was made using a Creatology Vinyl Decorating Toy with acrylic paint and a glossy finish.
It is time, boys and girls, for a return to Custom Characters, our regular feature where I’ve been showcasing all of my custom vinyl figure creations. On deck for today: Kidzilla is his name, and destroying worlds is his game.
Before I got into this whole custom vinyl figure game, I did a lot of research (surfin’ the web, lookin’ at pictures). I noticed that one of the more popular techniques people employed was painting a figure within a figure, otherwise known as the ol’ “peering through the mouth of an animal suit” motif. And so that’s what I ended up doing with our pal Kidzilla here. He was practically begging for it!
Kidzilla was made using a Rose Art Color Blanks figure with acrylic paint and a glossy finish. Isn’t he simply adorable/terrifying?
Welcome back to another edition of Custom Characters, the regular feature where I show off all of my custom vinyl figure creations. Today I’d like you to say hello to Who Hare.
Who Hare was made using a Mini Qee figure with acrylic paint and a glossy finish. This Qee figure is a step up in quality from the more generic figures that I’ve completed up until now. Of course, I’m merely speaking in terms of craftmanship and durability of the actual parts that make up the doll. Who Hare himself isn’t any more lovable than any of my other custom characters. They have no reason to be jealous. Honest!
In honor of this most wonderful time of the year, here’s an all new yuletide edition of Custom Characters, the regular feature where I’ve been rolling out all of my custom vinyl figure creations. On deck today is Ice Ice Davy.
Ice Ice Davy was made using a Creatology Vinyl Decorating Toy with acrylic paint and a glossy finish. After I’d finished this guy I was a little irked with myself for giving him paws instead of hooves. Deer, after all, have hooves. But then I figured that deer are not blue, and deer are not cyclops either, so I suppose I shouldn’t be too worried about whatever it is that’s going on with Ice Ice Davy’s feet.

Mr. Jones (or Kneecrunch, as I like to call him) has an interesting note of duality about him. His “hair” simultaneously obscures and reveals a lot about him. There’s no telling what some time at the salon might reveal– Perhaps a completely different Kneecrunch than we’ve all become accustomed to here.
Kneecrunch was made using a Creatology Doodle Budz figure with acrylic paint, hot glue, and a semi-gloss finish. That’s all for this installment of Custom Characters. Tune in next time or I may have to sic a certain Mr Jones on you…
Say hello to Melty, everyone. He’s the latest entry in Custom Characters, a regular feature where I’ve been rolling out all of my custom vinyl figure creations.
Melty is the first figure I’ve added something other than paint to. The textured fur/sludge covering his body was actually crafted with a hot glue gun. Covering him up with that goop, his head in particular, felt very much like frosting a cupcake.
Melty was made from a Rose Art Color Blanks figure. After the hot glue, the usual acrylic paint and glossy finish were applied. Another contender for the custom figure throne!
It all started with the Munny. Months back, I knew I wanted to try my hand at a Munny figure. Since then I’ve discovered all sorts of other blank figures that I have had a blast turning into my very own “custom characters,” but I knew eventually I would have to return to the one who started it all.
And so while I was in town for the New York Comic Con I figured I would stop by the Kidrobot store and pay respect to the legend in person. Isn’t he pretty? Did you know that blue is my favorite color? The two of us talked for hours that night.
I told him that I’ve had a Mini Munny of my own for a little while now. I’ve simply been waiting for the right kind of inspiration to strike before tackling it. I promised the big guy I’d do my best to make him proud with it, and we left it at that.
It is still as blank as ever right here in my little hands, but it won’t be that way forever. I’ll make him pretty and share him with you when the time is right. I promise.
Welcome to an all new spook themed edition of Custom Characters, a regular feature where I’ve been showcasing the latest and greatest of my custom vinyl figure creations. Today I’d like to present to you a trio so creepy that they dare not go by any other name than Scary Skivvies.
There is much yet to be known about the Scary Skivvies. Are these their trick-or-treating outfits? Did Halloween fall on laundry day this year? Or are they just a care free group of fellows who simply enjoy showing off their well toned bodies? Whatever the case may be, I think it’s safe to say that Halloween won’t be the same this year… If these guys have anything to say about it.

Welcome to the second installment of Custom Characters, a regular feature where I’ll be showcasing the results of my do-it-yourself vinyl figure creations. Today I would like to introduce you to The Munk.
The Munk was made using a Doodle Budz figure with acrylic paint and a semi-gloss finish. If he looks a little familiar, that’s because he was designed to be a more fully realized version of the very first character I ever tried my hand at (who I now lovingly refer to as Munk Jr).
I feel like I’ve come a long way since little Munk Jr, and feel like the sky is the limit for the Munk family and beyond. So stay tuned to Custom Characters, as we’ll be rolling more out in due time. Thanks for visiting!
Welcome to Custom Characters, a new feature where I’ll be showcasing the results of my do-it-yourself vinyl figure creations. As I’ve written about recently, I’ve really gotten the bug to make these things, as they are such a great medium to create some crazy looking characters. Today I would like to introduce you to Cringer.
Cringer was made using a Doodle Budz figure with acrylic paint and a semi-gloss finish. Being my first official custom figure, I think he turned out pretty good and I’m happy with the results. In addition to the figures themselves, I’m also somewhat of a novice with the paints, so I’m learning a lot as I go in every which way.
I hope to make Custom Characters a regular feature, as I’ve got more figures coming down the pipeline. Aside from doing them just because they’re fun, I’m not exactly sure what the end result will be with these guys. I’ll probably bring some with me to conventions, and may also put some in my Etsy shop. I suppose only time will tell. But for now, just enjoy the show!
