All New, All Different!

Saturday, December 13th, 2008

I’ve completely overhauled neiljam.com and could not be happier about it.  This new design is more streamlined than ever before and should provide a better all around Neil Jam web experience for all of us.  Since comics are the name of the game around here, I’ve once again appropriately made a new Neil Jam comic strip the centerpiece of this new design.  I’m not sure at this point how often I’ll be posting new strips, but since this new design has subscription capabilities it should be easier for everyone to stay in-the-know.  There are still Neil Jam minicomics and other odds and ends in the works which I’ll also be reporting about here… So things haven’t changed too much.  Everything’s just running a bit smoother.  Gotta love the modern digital age!

Music to my ears

Bockman PosterI recently finished this poster for Bockman, a band I was friends with back in my college days.  I designed a handful of fliers for them back in the day before we lost touch.  As it turns out, they’ll be playing with some other old friends of theirs at this upcoming show and figured they should go old-school with their poster as well, which is where I came in.

I’ve been listening to their album, Chasing Dragons (available on itunes), a lot since getting this “assignment,” and I must say that I think it is fantastic.  I am very proud of them!  (Click on the image to get a closer look)

Neil Jam Adventure

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

Neil Jam AdventureMore than a few years back I did a handful of Neil Jam stories featuring Willis as a sort of superhero. One of these stories found its way into the third volume of the Kramers Ergot anthology, and a little while later I packaged it by itself in minicomic form.

To make a long story short, the minicomic has been unofficially out of print for some time now, so I’ve decided to put the entire thing on the web for everyone to enjoy!

This action packed story features Willis as his super self juggling a menacing bully and a nagging lady friend at the same time, and offers a great glimpse into old school, classic style Neil Jam!

Neil Jam Adventure can now be read in its entirety within the comic gallery section of my ComicSpace page, so go on and get to reading!

All Neil Jam Books 50% Off!

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

salebooksI’ve decided to retool my publishing efforts in 2009 and take my Neil Jam books in a different direction.  What does this mean for you?  A big sale, that’s what!  All the minicomics in the store are now 50% off!

I’ve put a lot of work into these minicomics over the years but now have a hankering to remold the work into a more accessible format.   I’d like to clear out my current inventory and start fresh, which is where the 50% off sale comes in.

The best value for the big sale would be the Neil Jam Comic Book Box, which holds eight Neil Jam minicomics and hundreds of pages of Neil Jam goodness.

Another good item, and the only book that does not come in the Comic Book Box, is Neil Jam Invasion, a giant 100 pager.  The only remaining copies I have of this book are in imperfect condition, so they have already been reduced in price.  Throw in the 50% off deal, and you’re practically getting the book for free!

Please check out the store and take a look around.  There’s a lot of good stuff to be had at a great price!

“To Do” List…

Friday, February 6th, 2009

In order to get this site in top working order, there’s a few things I’ve been meaning to do. First, I intend to add some sort of “cast” page– just a basic rundown of names and such to give everyone a firmer grasp of the characters. Second, and most important, I need to make this whole thing official– establish a set updating schedule and then stick to it. This will be the point of no return. And third…? Hmmm, I don’t know what else. Let me know if there’s anything I’m leaving out.

Neil Jam Update

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

I went ahead and added a picture of the Neil Jam cast in the “About” page, so if anybody gets confused about who’s who around here, u can use that pic for reference. Still haven’t decided on when or how to make these comic strip updates official, but I’ll get back to posting some new ones next week. Look at me, going on and on about icky “business” stuff… Have I told you how beautiful you look today?

May Musings

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

We seem to be back on track with the comic updates, which is certainly good news. And in other news, I’ll be at Anime Central (or ACen, for the cool people) this weekend (May 8-10). I don’t know a heck of a lot about anime, but I was on hand last year and it went pretty well. I’ll have the usual bulk load of books and artwork with me. Oh, and don’t forget to follow me on Twitter!

Anime Central Aftermath

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

Anime Central was a wild weekend immersed in the wild world of anime. Unlike a comics convention, an anime convention like this has a much broader scope. There were only a handful of us peddling comics within the artist alley. The rest of the tables had a variety of items: tshirts, jewelry, bookmarks, prints, toys, crafty goods, and a whole lot more.

This sign was my secret weapon of the weekend. It was inspired by a similar technique my table neighbor Brion Foulke was using. I crafted it on the spot with an old legal pad I had with me and held it over my table for nearly the entire three days. Believe it or not, it actually worked! A good number of people told me they stopped specifically because they saw or liked the sign. I’m not sure this exact technique would work at a comics convention, but it managed to do the job here. Who knew??

I want to thank everyone who stopped by to say hi or chat. It was a pretty fun weekend, and now that my feet have stopped hurting I feel ready to do it again. There are several more photos on my flickr page if you’d like to get a better feel of what the show was like. For now I think I’ll just leave you with a shot of my favorite costumed crazy of the weekend– a Jedi Bunny.

Neil Jam Journal
This strip is from a little while back, but I like it…

Let’s Make It Official!

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

It is official. Every Wednesday from here on out you can expect to see a new Neil Jam comic strip. Up until now, the update schedule had been “whenever,” so I feel we’re making some actual progress around here! Once a week may not sound like much, but I plan to supplement these strips with various new comic book style pages which I am simultaneously working on. I’ll do my best to post those pages periodically. But yeah, Wednesday is now Neil Jam day. It is official. Please tell your friends!
